Fun Research, Autumn Anticipation and Over the Garden Wall

It's Spooky Season! And that means I'm deep in a lot of monster content coming out - apologies to everyone who finds that annoying. But I'll just keep enjoying my pumpkin spice lattes as I really look forward to Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein.

Anyway, I'm doing a lot of stuff that's not related to this, so let's chat about all the stuff I'm writing, reading and enjoying.

What I'm Writing

I just finished writing my third of four substack posts for October, each one of them about monsters. I've got one more to go, which I'll hopefully have done by the time this newsletter gets to you.

I'm also getting ready to do some sample chapter writing for the Taylor Swift research proposal. I just finished working out a rough outline of chapters, and I hope to be finishing the proposal by the end of this quarter. We'll see!

What I'm Reading

Fandom reading and research is taking up a lot of my time, thanks to the Taylor Swift project. But I'm doing some other reading as well. I'm doing a Personal Curriculum this quarter, meaning that some of my fun leisure time will be taken up with self-guided research classes. That means that I'm happily ending the day, or reading on weekends, about Welsh Mythology and an overview of English Magic. It's a nice change from the typical fandom, music fandom history, and monsters that I'm spending my time with during the day.

I've also joined a book club in Salisbury, which means I'm being encouraged to read some fiction outside of my typical choices. It's been fun so far, and a nice change of pace. It's also only once a month, so I still have time to read other stuff.

What I'm Enjoying

This last weekend, my husband and I did our beginning of autumn tradition of eating a homemade pumpkin spice cheesecake and watching Over the Garden Wall. Its one of my favourite autumn traditions, and I look forward to it every year. Over the Garden Wall is one of my favourite piece of media - and nows the perfect time of year to indulge if you haven't yet.

Other than that, I've been rather stuck in the re-watching sphere again. We're reaching the end of our third or fourth re-watch of Brooklyn 99. I have thoughts, but I don't think they'll ever end up in a video essay, though I guess I should never say never. If you have any suggestions, would love to hear them!

That being said, I know of a few movies coming out soon that I'll be enjoying, including Frankenstein and the new Knives Out. So hopefully I'll have some other enjoyments to talk about next month.

And that's it from me this week! I'll be back with a recap at the end of the month, as always. But, in the meantime, always remember to be kind to one another!

Today marks the end of March, and 2026 continues its onward trudge. March also is the end of my first quarter, and - as you’re reading this - I’m currently on my reset weeks. I’ve talked about this a bit on my vlogs, but I always take two weeks between quarters to catch up on life and house admin, consult where I’m at in terms of my writing projects, and plan a nice approach for the next quarter. And, you know, if I play some Pokopia in the meantime, then I guess that’s just what it is....

Hello everyone, and welcome to a chill catch up of some fun stuff for March! This year, so far, has been quite full for me. The world is worlding, my research is researching, and I’ve got some big news coming down the pipeline from my own personal life that I can’t wait to share at some point soon. Hopefully it’ll be soon. Sometimes it does feel like shouting through a burning fire that I just published a book, with the state of things at times. But I hope that my updates and the things I...

2026 is plodding on, and it’s been raining almost consistently throughout since January. The skies have been gray and the ground wet all year so far. The gardens I normally walk through on strolls are all flooded. Most of Salisbury is fully underwater - some of which is planned for with the flood plains, and some of which is not. Looking ahead today before writing this, and it looks like I get a whole two days without rain coming up (woohoo!) but hopefully that means there will be a reprieve...
