December Recap

One less of a few things in December - one less vlog, and one less substack - but I hope you all understand that it helped with the break. Also, I figure most people will be rather busy anyway. Apologies to those of you who aren't - I'll try and make it up to you by having some amazing stuff in January.

Anyway, let's get into what all I made in December.

Substack Posts

The posts this month weren't intended to be themed, but it did kind of end up being a bit more skewed toward horror than I had any intention to. But, hey, there's something about December that gives spooky dark cold vibes.

  • Ineffable Mythology - I wanted to spend some time today talking about the thing I don't like to think about with my studies - that stuff you can't measure or anlayse. When a story really clicks with you, when it becomes part of your mythology, theres often something you just can't describe about it.
  • Cosmic Horror and Religion - In this one, I wanted to talk about the religious links between cosmic horror and religion - both in some of the theories of both fields and in the way the main man of cosmic horror - H.P Lovecraft - felt about both.
  • The Familar Strange. The Strange Familiar. - This was a bit of a reflective piece. Originally, I was going to write about the all important phrase in anthropology "Making the familiar strange, and the strange familiar". However, it ended up being a little bit of a reflective moment on what it means to be an anthropologist.
  • The Christmas Ghost - for our Christmas post, I wanted to talk about why Christmas is such a time for ghosts and spooky things. We look at the history of the Christmas ghost, and reflect on why it finds a home in our stories this time of year.

Video Essay

This months video essay is a conversation between History and Mythology - two things that are often directly kept away from one another. But, through the Broadway musical Hamilton, I wanted to explore how these two fields are not really all that different. In fact, the two fields can cross into realms of grey.

Writing Vlogs

  • Writing a Book Proposal | Taylor Swift and Mythology - We ended November with a chat about what goes into a nonfiction book proposal. So, in this one, we actually start writing one! And, I show you just how much I hate titling books.
  • Finishing the Rough Draft | Project Submarine - I put this one out not on my usual time because it was a bit shorter than I typically like to give you. But I finished the rough draft of my novel, which I've been using the project name Project Submarine for! Yay!
  • Editing a Nonfiction Proposal | Taylor Swift and Mythology - after writing the proposal, I took some time to sit back and now its time to do some edits. We also finish up some of the other work for the Taylor Swift project so I can start up January with as little extra friction as humanly possible. If you want to know how I do 1-2-1 interviews, this is the one to watch.
  • A Chill Day Writing | Short Story Drafting - that's right! I didn't forget my goal to write a short story every quarter! I start by recapping my inspiration and the brief overview of the story, and then we start writing!
  • A Reflective Chat on my Personal Curriculum | Welsh Mythology and English Magic - I didn't record much of my actual work on the personal curriculum this quarter - something I intend to remedy in the new year - but I did want to reflect on what I learned during this quarter's curriculum.

I'm a Fan of That

That's right! There's an episode of I'm a Fan of That! We did a Christmas special episode, all on the notion of the Christmas Special. Yes, we realise how meta this is.

In case you didn't know, there are actually another two episodes which came out at the end of November and beginning of December that are reserved only for our Patreon members. So if you want to listen to those, as well as another 12 episodes from last year, you can go ahead and sign up there!

And that's it! Closing out the year with a nice look at everything I've done is actually a really nice way to close out 2025. This year I launched the substack, launched a patreon, and reached a huge milestone on my Incidental Mythology YouTube channel. I'm really proud of myself, and there's only some more lovely things to come.

As always, be nice to each other! And I'll see you next year!

Today marks the end of March, and 2026 continues its onward trudge. March also is the end of my first quarter, and - as you’re reading this - I’m currently on my reset weeks. I’ve talked about this a bit on my vlogs, but I always take two weeks between quarters to catch up on life and house admin, consult where I’m at in terms of my writing projects, and plan a nice approach for the next quarter. And, you know, if I play some Pokopia in the meantime, then I guess that’s just what it is....

Hello everyone, and welcome to a chill catch up of some fun stuff for March! This year, so far, has been quite full for me. The world is worlding, my research is researching, and I’ve got some big news coming down the pipeline from my own personal life that I can’t wait to share at some point soon. Hopefully it’ll be soon. Sometimes it does feel like shouting through a burning fire that I just published a book, with the state of things at times. But I hope that my updates and the things I...

2026 is plodding on, and it’s been raining almost consistently throughout since January. The skies have been gray and the ground wet all year so far. The gardens I normally walk through on strolls are all flooded. Most of Salisbury is fully underwater - some of which is planned for with the flood plains, and some of which is not. Looking ahead today before writing this, and it looks like I get a whole two days without rain coming up (woohoo!) but hopefully that means there will be a reprieve...
